Franz Ferdinand played a sensational 'secret' show at Glastonbury tonight (June 27), driving a huge crowd wild with a mix of old classics and songs from their forthcoming third album.
The band's appearance on the Park Stage had been kept secret until the news broke yesterday (June 26), though many of the crowd, having already been at Glastonbury when the news emerged, were shocked when the band appeared onstage for their first performance at the festival since they played the Other Stage in 2004.
Frontman Alex Kapranos greeted the crowd with the word "Surprise" before the group launched into their hit 'The Dark Of The Matinee'.
As well as playing hits like 'Michael' and 'Walk Away', Franz showcased four songs from their forthcoming new album, the follow-up to 2005's 'You Could Have It So Much Better'. They were 'Kathryn Kiss Me', 'Ulysees', 'Turn It On', and 'What She Came For' - the new tunes getting an ecstatic response.
Kapranos dedicated the band's biggest hit, 'Take Me Out', to a punter who had spotted him earlier in the day, but mistakenly believed the band were from Sheffield, and not their native Glasgow.
Franz Ferdinand finished with their traditional closer 'This Fire' before exiting to huge cheers from the massive crowd.
